Supporting the Mental Health Needs of Our Students

The LCCTF raises money to support the mental health needs for LCCTC students including Avedium programming, Radical 5 Minutes initiative, in-school counseling, and wellness fairs.

Mental Health Initiatives

Aevidum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that empowers youth to shatter the silence surrounding depression, suicide, and other issues facing teens. The word Aevidum, which means “I’ve got your back,” was created by students after a classmate died by suicide. Aevidum inspires schools and communities to adopt cultures of care and advocacy, encouraging all members to have their friends’ backs. Aevidum exists in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and colleges across the nation.

Radical 5 Minutes requires teachers to have a scripted discussion and interaction with students for five minutes a day. The curriculum is provided by CMI and includes the topics Aevidum is trying to put forth as far as how to identify those in need, how to access professional help (if needed) in addition to many other topics. The program allows students to discuss—in a non-threatening way—techniques to help themselves and others through a variety of issues.  Tools that students take away are also tools that can help them become successful in the workplace. They address not just desired school behavior, but also good citizenship behaviors that relate to assisting your neighbors and yourself when situations arise.
